About

Named after a place most people have never heard of

Si Phan Don sits where the Mekong widens and scatters into an archipelago. It is the closest thing we found to a description of what collecting actually feels like.

A wooden longtail boat moored among the forested islands of the Mekong at dawn

Four thousand islands, and nobody has ever agreed on the number.

In the far south of Laos, just before the river crosses into Cambodia, the Mekong spreads to nearly fourteen kilometres wide and breaks apart. What is left is a scatter of islands — some inhabited and farmed for generations, most just a stand of trees on a sandbar that vanishes when the water rises.

Counting them is a fool’s errand, which is rather the point. Si Phan Don is a name that admits the collection is unfinished and always will be. Anyone who has spent a decade chasing a set knows the feeling.

We started in 2019 out of a spare room in Vientiane, mostly reselling what we had over-bought ourselves. The thing that grew the shop was not sourcing — anyone can source. It was writing honest condition notes when it would have been easier not to, and photographing the actual card when a stock image would have sold faster.

How we operate

Four things we do not compromise on

The photo is the card

Every listing shows the item you will receive. If there is a scratch, a soft corner or an off-centre border, it is in the photograph and it is in the description. We would rather lose a sale than have someone open a package and feel misled.

Condition is a promise, not a mood

We grade by eye against a fixed rubric under daylight-balanced lamps, and we grade conservatively. A card we call Lightly Played will usually pass for Near Mint elsewhere. That is deliberate.

Consignors are people we have met

Island Sellers are not an open marketplace. Each one is vetted, has shipped through us before, and is accountable for what they list. If something goes wrong with a consigned order, you deal with us, not with them.

Bulk matters too

The hobby runs on people who buy a $3 playset as much as on the person buying a slab. Cheap orders get the same sleeve, the same toploader and the same packing as expensive ones.
